Qualifications:
· A medical qualification appropriate for a professorial appointment,
· A doctoral degree in the relevant field and/or peer-reviewed full publications on original research will be strongly advantageous.
· The preferred candidate must be appointed/appointable at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor in the University.
· Registration with HPCSA as a health professional in the applicable discipline would be an advantage
· Minimum seven years postgraduate experience of which at least five (5) years at senior level with demonstrable experience of managing a research or diagnostic laboratory.
· Prior formal involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at a tertiary academic institution
· Research experience as demonstrated by authorship of peer-reviewed publications
· Prior supervision of postgraduate research at the level of Master’s Degree or higher
· Strong leadership, Time management, interpersonal, organisational and presentation skills
· Computer literate and good report writing ability
· Suitable candidates must be within the current Wits teaching platforms
Duties:
· Strengthen undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.
· Monitor and report on the adequacy and appropriate standard of teaching.
· Monitor and report on the adequacy and appropriate standard of research throughput.
· Maintaining teaching and examining standards within the department.
· Setting research priorities, developing research partnerships, and building research capacity within the relevantfields.
· Ensuring that the Divisions and School meet its teaching commitments, both undergraduate and postgraduate.
· Promote staff development and manage staff performance and assessment within the department.
· Work with other heads to ensure sound financial and personnel management.
· Encourage collaboration between departments working across the teaching platforms.
· Set norms and standards for the maintenance of service delivery and quality outputs in the department.
· Continually monitor and, as necessary, improve success and graduation rates of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research outputs of the department.
· Further the mission and vision of the School of Pathology and the Department of Immunology and Virology.
