Job Description

Duties and responsibilities:

Plan, set up and perform preparation of analytical batch preparation, including samples for External Quality Assurance programs, etc. within the prescribed timeframes.
Perform daily extraction methodologies in a timely manner and according to formal procedures, while working closely with analysts.
Ensure constant full chain of custody during all laboratory procedures and maintain full confidentiality of all laboratory aspects and samples at all times.
Support quality improvement initiatives and conduct and support investigations.
Perform the assigned laboratory tasks and responsibilities promptly and according to the various SOPs and logbooks and required timelines.
Support senior analytical staff with the preparation of calibration standards, quality controls & analysis.
Set up, operate and perform routine & non-routine maintenance and calibration procedures on laboratory apparatus.
Keep Management informed of activities & events that could influence work performance, timeframes & results and perform assigned tasks delegated by Management.
Support Sample Administration Team with the receipt, opening, processing and recording of samples in the LIMS according to related SOPs.
Support laboratory staff by conducting daily, weekly and monthly verification of small apparatus.
Enter sample information into the LIMS as applicable.
Preserve all technical records by best practices described in SADoCoL SOPs, the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard and WADA ISL to ensure full chain of custody, retrieval and integrity of data and information.
Attend and participate in laboratory meetings.
Ensure that assigned SOPs and associated documents are updated according to the latest regulatory requirements and as delegated by the Quality Manager.
Enhance laboratory reputation by accepting ownership for assigned duties, explore opportunities and to add value to job requirements.
Perform the additional tasks assigned via the Task and Responsibility List.
Participate in internal research activities as delegated by SADoCoL Management.

Inherent Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in the Natural Sciences or Grade 12 plus five years relevant experience in an ISO/IEC accredited laboratory, clinical research organization (CRO) or pathology laboratory.
Experience in the preparation of biological samples for analytical purposes.

Recommendations:

Knowledge and experience of handling of laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges, balances, pH meters, etc.
Knowledge and experience of sample administration in a routine service delivery laboratory or pathology laboratory.
Knowledge and experience of ISO/IEC 17025, GLP or GCP.
Experience of working in a regulated laboratory environment is advantageous.
Knowledge of the use of a Laboratory Information Management System.
Knowledge of the requirements set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
