Short Description / Purpose of Job

• Experienced business development leader with scale-up experience, leads the negotiation and execution of partnerships, makes strategic decisions to maximise how an organization creates, delivers, and captures value and sets overall Go-to-Market strategy for the project

• Drive growth opportunities for partnering, merger, acquisition, and cooperation aligned with project objectives

• Secure customers for project offtake, individually and/or as consortiums
• Clarify and align partner’s commercial responsibilities and establish ways of operating
• Manage all partnership interfaces related to commercial agreements during project development stage. Frame and set-up the project’s commercial model.
• Develop, build, scale the Commercial team and business track resources and Lead the business track, including supply chain, techno economic modelling and risk management.
• Integrate the different components of the business, regulatory and stakeholder environment with Sasol’s strategic intent and financial constraints to develop the appropriate business plan and strategy.
• Provide SVP Global Markets H2 Development, Project Dir., and JV/partnership leadership team with timely information and materials for effective decision making

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Commercial

• Explore, investigate, and propose the most optimal commercial model for the project
• Identify project value levers e.g., customers/off takers, tax, technical levers, etc. and work closely with the Technical Project Lead
• Responsible for the Business Plan and Strategy for the respective project stage gates. Key elements integrated within the Business Plan include:
• Project description and scope, business strategy and strategic fit
• Business ownership structure (Partnerships/ JV’s/ Alliances), management structure and organisation design
• Cross-business impacts and assessment
• Market development (i.e. industry analysis, competitive advantages, competitor analysis, value chain comparisons, marketing strategy, supply demand and pricing analysis)
• Sales agreements (level of completion)
• Products (quality and specifications for products and by-products, environmental acceptability, etc)
• Logistics, distribution channels and supply chain plans for inbound and outbound products, feedstock, utilities and other materials (and their costs)
• Commercial agreements in place, to be agreed, etc
• Feedstocks, Chemicals and Catalysts (availability, supply, costs and delivery)
• Utilities, Infrastructure, services (in-house and bought-in) and other materials/equipment (availability, supply, costs and delivery)
• Other fixed and variable costs not covered by the above (Salaries, labour, taxes, insurance, duties, etc)
• Real estate, site location, site selection and fixed assets (where applicable)
• Business Information infrastructure and systems (plan, costs)
• Royalties and licence fees and agreements
• Legal and Contractual issues and constraints and intellectual property issues that pertain to the business proposal.
• Financing plan
• Risk identification, assessment and mitigation strategies for killer concerns as well as manageable risks.
• Tax and fiscal regimes (repatriation of earnings, exchange controls, duties, concessions, policies, etc. where applicable)
• Probabilistic Economic analysis with sensitivity analyses.

• Define and set up project commercial model and carry out contracting and tendering / procurement with H2 value-chain partners (excl. RES)
• Ensure that the necessary economic evaluation models and systems are developed and maintained, and robust economic evaluation and decision analysis activities are performed to ensure effective decision making
• Ensure that risks for the project is defined, mitigated and effectively managed.
• Manage commercial interfaces in SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) and all other partnership models

Governance
• Establish management frameworks to integrate between the business tracks with the technical tracks.
• Provide weekly report to SVP Global Markets H2 Development on project status, key decisions, and roadblocks
• Scale and capacitate the commercial team with the right skills and capabilities
• Provide weekly or bi-weekly report to commercial track sub-committee of Special Purpose Vehicle /Joint Venture
• Develop the Business Plan for the respective project stage gates.

Formal Education
Bachelor’s Degree

Master’s degree (preferred or an advantage)

Min Experience
• 16+ relevant years
• 7+ years in commercial/business development role with strong track record of project development and execution
• Deep knowledge of the hydrogen value chains and key players across the value chain (incl. potential green hydrogen and green hydrogen derivative off takers)
• Experienced leader able to transfer skills to team and grow capacity and capability
