Job Description

Short Description / Purpose of Job

Ensure effective investment and decision analysis support for capital projects and business model integration by creating enabling techno economic models. Ensure that the Sasol Centre of Expertise (CoE) for investment and valuation analyses providing functional leadership, framework, structure, best practices and minimum requirements including the GEM model support have been applied and adhered to. Ensure a common platform for the Rolling Capital Plan (RCP) update process for all Sasol ecoFT projects.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Business establishment

• Centre of Excellence for investment analysis within Sasol ecoFT
  • Draw up and update relevant policies & procedures aligned with Group CoE;
  • Update and maintain Sasol ecoFT capital governance manual;
  • Provide advise to various project environments on best practices to ensure consistency across projects;
  • Peer assist on significant economic and valuation models;
  • Implement probabilistic risk model across business environment.
• Support to Financial lead and portfolio management team
  • Support team during bi-annual Rolling Capital Plan update cycles (beyond GEM support) to update the relevant reporting systems;
  • Assist with CSAC submissions relating to RCP and project updates;
  • Assist team in dealing with asset/opportunity review process for gate review assurance.
• Construct and Maintain Sasol ecoFT internal economic models for various projects and assumption base
  • Enable high quality capital and associated benefit streams during capital planning cycles;
  • Establish and maintain generic pathway models and roll out for different projects and in different regions;
  • Construct and maintain economic assumptions per project and per pathway, compared to market intelligence;
  • Maintain economic modelling of projects specific requirements and strategic participation options as input to portfolio process with strategy to “close long-term strategic gap” – Sasol ecoFT value stack;
  • Maintain data for various pathway elements relating to competitor technology and costing.

• Thought Leadership
  • Provide functional thought leadership, framework, structure, best practice and minimum requirements for investment analysis;
  • Build internal capacity and share knowledge in functional area of Investment analysis
• Stakeholder management
  • Responsible for building strong relationship with Business analyst, Business development, Group finance and Group Investment assurance team, CoE for investment analysis and Investment analysts in Energy on related projects to ensure transfer of lessons learnt and alignment as “One Sasol”;
  • Responsible for building strong relationship with the partners’ investment analyst resource on each project and ensure alignment on assumptions and economic model output.

Project support

• Investment analysis & modelling
  • Develop and maintain risk based integrated economic and valuation models while managing and interrogating the inputs thereof against market intelligence and other related projects;
  • Ensure that requirements of the economic analysis section of the BD&I model are met e.g. sensitivity analysis, probabilistic risk analysis, scenario analysis, etc.;
  • Collect and present assumptions for track leads for sign off;
  • Present final economics to project Sasol project Steering Committee in an agreed best-in-class dashboard;
  • Present final economics to Joint project Steering Committee with the partner(s), as the lead investment analyst or supporting;
  • Support the commercial team in negotiations by interpreting and making sound recommendations from results of the economic analysis;
  • Sign off all economic and valuation models and probabilistic models (Monte Carlo simulations) as functional expert;
  • Compare various project relative economics without compromising project or competitor integrity

Formal Education

University Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering & Science and/or Business/commerce

Min Experience

11+ years’ experience with least 3 years exposure to investment analysis
