Short Description / Purpose of Job

To support the Polymers Sales and Marketing team in the delivery of business objectives, in decision making and strategy development and execution through providing insight and interpretation of market intelligence, analyst reports, relevant global reference databases, and industry trends. Candidate will be responsible for analysing of data and information, and reporting on external and internal business data and information. To produce reports on market intelligence and business performance. Candidate will also be mentored in the area of product management and product strategies, and will be given exposure to the market and customer and industry interactions.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

To support the Senior Manager Marketing and the Marketing Specialists in the delivery of business objectives, market growth objectives and continuous improvement drivers.

Monitor business relevant areas of the external economic environment (micro and macro).
Collect and track numerical market statistics, indicators and datasets.
Capture all qualitative and quantitative market data collected by team.
Capture pricing information in price database.
Maintain relevant global reference pricing datasets as applicable.
Support Marketing Manager in the compilation of required Business Reports.
To play an active role in the delivery on relevant business and Marketing and Sales projects.
Support Marketing Specialists with business related activities (e.g. strategy development, product allocations, price and volume budgets), and the provision of market information to other functions within Sasol and/or stakeholders/industry associations outside of Sasol. This will be a key area of mentoring and development of the individual, with focus on the various elements of total product management.
Analyse, understand and stay current with the short and medium term business environment in which Base Chemicals Polymers operates (complete market exposure).
Support the development of marketing information, and co-ordinate marketing activies linked to applicable internal and external events.
Customer and industry interactions, aligned with product management role.
To deliver internal and external reports and data analysis as required by Polymers and Base Chemicals. To ensure improved measurement of M&S performance, market analysis and value adding reporting

Capture, structure and maintain all M&S business data (not housed in business systems) and information in a logical and structured manner.
Ensure all business databases are updated and maintained as and when required (e.g. import statistics, rebate deal information, netback and profitability reporting)
Ensure business information is accessible to M&S management and team.
Support the Senior Marketing Manager in the updating and review of controlled documents, policies and procedures.
Ensure governance and compliance in data storage and document control.
Ensure continuous improvement and embrace the use of new technologies in the way information is presented and reported.
To deliver Marketing support to the different Sales Channels to enable the Sales team to deliver on Sales targets and Customer Service by adopting both a Sales channel and Product approach to the market.

Compile and distribute standard reports with market indicators and metrics to various teams in M&S (frequency and content to be agreed with sales managers and market analysts).
Compile and distribute ad hoc reports on topics of interest to various teams in M&S (content to be agreed with sales managers and market analysts).
Market sector analysis and segmentation.
Alert management and team to any developments or trends in external environment which might impact on the business.
Compile and co-ordinate the weekly sales tracking reporting tool.
Support members of sales teams with studies / analysis as required.
Provide value-add market intelligence in support of the Regional Marketing strategies.

Formal Education

University Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

Min Experience

At least 5 years’ relevant experience in polymers or related fields such as chemicals and energy
• Cross-functional experience highly preferred (i.e. commercial, technical, manufacturing, planning, supply chain)
• Understanding of polymer production technology, products and applications will be an advantage
• Strong analytical capability to apply existing knowledge set to the Polymers industry
• An understanding of polymer markets as well as the petrochemical industry
• Proven ability to interpret, synthesize and summarise detailed commercial and market data. Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail essential
