Job Description

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have at least an N5 Diploma in either Mechanical or Electro (heavy current) Engineering.
• A Management/Supervisory skills Certificate would be advantageous
• Minimum of 5 years’ work experience as a Maintenance Supervisor with detailed knowledge of plants and processes in a production and/or packaging environment is essential
• Must be computer literate MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Outlook), including knowledge of Syspro
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), planning, organising, interpersonal and IR skills are important for this role
• Must have experience in a GMR2.1 or GMR2.7 appointment role and in the management of subordinates
• In-depth knowledge of NEMA, OHS Act and all other relevant Acts and regulations is important 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Ensuring that engineering standards for the entire site meet legal requirements which include Production, Despatch, Laboratory, Admin and Workshop facilities.
• Managing the maintenance schedule to ensure that the engineering maintenance on site is run efficiently.
• Managing capital expenditure/cost containment.
• Designing, implementing and communicating to relevant disciplines the engineering standards for the site.
• Carrying out systematic audits to check compliance with laid down engineering standards.
• Functioning as a legal appointee in terms of GMR2.1 (Supervisor of machinery) and reporting any legal engineering shortcomings to the Manufacturing Manager.
• Ensuring that engineering statutory requirements are kept up to date and that the information is adequately stored.
• Investigating and designing cost effective process systems, including technical aspects, e.g. air flows, load designs, etc.
• Negotiating with service providers with respect to prices, delivery lead times, etc.
• Compiling capex documents for Management’s approval.
• Initiating purchase requisitions on Syspro and purchase orders for equipment.
• Ensuring goods received are checked and operational.
• Compiling annual capex budget for Management’s approval including phasing and probabilities.
• Controlling and allocating costs associated with project work.
• Ensuring plant modification procedures are adhered to.
• Commissioning projects and assisting in the drawing up of WI’s/SOP’s.
• Ensuring that the necessary SHE aspects associated with projects are addressed and incorporated into project work, i.e. HAZOP studies, etc.
• Prioritising project workload in order to ensure that deadlines are met.
• Ensuring that penalty clauses where applicable are specified on project jobs.
• Preparing expenditure proposal applications in a professional manner, i.e. includes photographs, typed motivations, etc.
• In conjunction with the Financial Accountant, ensuring that the asset register is kept up to date.
• Compiling a maintenance budget for approval by Management and controlling and expenditure against budget.
• Reporting over expenditure and/or extra ordinary maintenance expenditure to the Manufacturing Manager.
• Checking invoices to be submitted for authorisation of payment against quotes on a monthly basis.
• Managing the activities of outsourced temps from outsourced maintenance companies.
• Ensuring plant and equipment are maintained and in good working order.
• Identifying inefficiencies and ensuring corrective action is implemented.
• Ensuring that an efficient maintenance system for the site is implemented and maintained.
• Identifying critical spares inventory.
• Participating in risk assessment and non-conformance investigations and meetings.
• Creating, maintaining and filing Production/Maintenance related documents and controlled forms.
• Recording, analysing and distributing statistical information to the Manufacturing Manager.
• Ensuring adherence to statutory and legal requirements.
• Ensuring SHEQ Management Systems requirements are strictly adhered to.
• Participating in all audits done for SHEQ Management Systems, i.e. external and internal audits pertaining to areas of responsibility.
