Job Description

Group Head of Digital Transformation – King David Schools

The South African Board of Jewish Education and King David schools aspire to be leaders in the digital transformation of education, and with the infusion of 21st century technologies across the curriculum to further support our journey to excellence in teaching and learning. The Group Head of Transformation will play a pivotal role in leading this journey, and supporting all of our schools, staff, educators and learners in the work that they do. As we adopt new transformative pedagogies, we need a dynamic, experienced education technologist to fill this important role working across our schools (Pre Primary to High School) and be a visible advocate for change. The role will include:

  • Leading the transformation project board on a three-year program of technology adoption and classroom implementation. Be a visible leader who models the change behaviours set out in this plan.
  • Coach and mentor the team of school-based champions across 11 schools.
  • Manage the work of the transformation project board in building out detailed timelines for the group and school transformation plans
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership Teams in schools to develop a training strategy for the roll-out and development of digital technologies in order to enhance teaching and learning and a continuing professional development program with key performance indicators and targets for every member of our leadership, educator and support teams.
  • Work with the SABJE General Director in appointing and supervising the work of solutions and training partners (including strong partnership with the Microsoft Education team)
  • Work with our schools’ leadership teams on change management programs for each school. With technical expertise, provide vision, inspiration and leadership for all employees engaged in digital transformation ensuring that priorities are delivered in an effective and timely way.
  • To be the lead subject matter expert on Digital Technologies for SABJE and be the fulcrum of external engagement with key stakeholders in order to ensure specific digital transformation objectives and progress are made.
  • Project management accountability for good use of resources, project risk log and administration including tracking progress and reporting monthly to the project board and SABJE director.
  • Provide the SABJE General Director and project board with current and relevant insights, intelligence and understanding of key issues in the development of IT and digital transformation of education and nationally and internationally.
  • Develop a strong partnership with the group CTO and team to ensure that technology, information, assessment and data services provided to all users across our schools are legally compliant, responsive and effective.
  • Be a strong supporter and advocate for our culture.

Qualification & Experience

  • Teaching qualification
  • Significant classroom experience and a track record of achievement particularly in the use of technology-enhanced teaching and learning. Experience of, and a passion for, digital transformation in education, research and innovation.
  • Experience with the Microsoft education technology platforms, tools and services (current or previous Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and Microsoft Certified educator status desirable).
  • Demonstrable record of continuing professional development.
  • Education project or program management experience an advantage as well as experience in a similar role.
  • Evidence of successful partnership working with a broad range of stakeholders, including an enthusiasm for engaging successfully with educators, students and external partners.
  • The ability to think strategically and provide visionary leadership contributing to the wider leadership of SABJE and King David Schools.
  • A collegial and inclusive approach to leadership, encouraging ideas, initiative and innovation from others and promoting the development of a high-performance culture.
