Job Description
The physical education (PE) teacher will serve as a member of our team of teachers committed to fulfilling our school’s vision, mission, core values, and goals. The physical education teacher will collaborate regularly with the other members of the physical education department to plan integrated units, learning engagements, and to promote the physical educational needs of our students.
In collaboration with other PE department colleagues of both of our AISJ campuses, the PE teacher will teach the acquisition of knowledge and skills in support of the AISJ PE program. The mission of physical education at AISJ is to enable all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Physical education is a sequential program based on physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive, and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful. The role may also require a commitment to teaching a middle school advisory class, a middle school electives class, as well as coaching an AISJ athletic team.
Qualifications and Experience
Teaching certification appropriate to age level and subject specializations
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in education or the area of expertise required
Master’s degree or similar preferred
Previous teaching experience, and strong knowledge in the area of specializations
Ability to communicate well with middle school students
Experience in curriculum and assessment development
Recent and relevant professional development
Expertise in building active, collaborative classroom programs which encourage health and wellness, problem solving, critical thinking skills, and which develop a sense of classroom community and trust
A proven ability to differentiate instruction and integrate learning
Coaching experience, particularly in volleyball, soccer, basketball, or swimming
Preferred Skills and Experience
International school experience
At least 2 years of experience in working with students in grades PK-Grade 8
A solid understanding of the importance of social and emotional growth
Experience and/or training in working with neurodiverse students
A solid understanding of differentiation of instruction and use of inquiry to design lessons
Understanding of Physical Education standards to review and revise units of instruction
Interest in and experience with technology integration
Ability to partner and co-teach
Recent professional development
Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Experience in developing and delivery of learning interventions
Ability to design student-based assessments that measure growth and achievement physical education
Experience in using learning evidence to guide instructional decisions
